Today, I'm excited to share a new drum fill with you that utilizes the "Five Stroke Roll" rudiment. This is one of those rudiments we often practice on the pad, but sometimes don't use enough on the drum set. Today, I'll show you how to incorporate it into an effective and interesting fill on the kit.
The fill is made up of sixteenth and eighth notes, so as always, I recommend counting out loud. The counting is included in the attached notation, so it's best to start practicing slowly to master the transitions perfectly. The sticking for this rudiment is: RRLLR, and on the left hand, LLRRL.
The fill itself isn't too complicated, and at the end of the video, I demonstrate it slowly so you can easily follow along. You'll find the full notation below and in the video.
